The Machalilla National Park is located in the province of Manabí, on the central coast of Ecuador.
Seaward, the island of La Plata is known for seabirds and migratory humpback whales. Near the town of Puerto López, on the remote Los Frailes beach, marine turtles nest. In the dry tropical forest of the park, the town of Agua Blanca has a lake of sulfur. Further inland, the cloud forest of the Chongón-Colonche mountain range hosts toucans and monkeys.
